I blame Aretha Franklin and Greg Belson for me buying seven gospel soul albums this weekend. I think that’s fair.
As I mentioned last week, I’ve been listening to Belson’s radio show online and hoping to find some gospel soul records of my own. This weekend I found five at my local record store and two more in a thrift shop. Awesome.
One of my favorite finds was Willie Banks and The Messengers’ 1973 album released on HSE Records called The Things I Can’t Change. The above track is just one of the great songs featured on this album and I can’t wait to dig in more. I’m trying to find more information on HSE Records but it’s been a bit of a challenge so far. I feel as if these songs could use a proper reissue down soon.
Here is the copy I found.
I look forward to posting more about my finds this week!
