I’m still on my gospel soul kick. After finding five great gospel LPs at the record store on Saturday, I made an extra trip to a thrift store near me in search of more.
This weekend, at a local thrift store, I found a wabi-sabi copy of the Brooklyn Allstars’ LP, Jesus Loves Me. The album was released in 1967 on the legendary Nashboro Records here in Nashville, TN.
I was so excited when I saw the jacket but my heart sunk when I realized the LP was missing. I noticed a large stack of records without jackets and thankfully this LP was sitting near the top. Whew. I brought it home and cleaned it up and it sounds great.
Note the marks on the front and back cover. My wife pointed out they marked through the title and assumed that someone used this jacket to keep their Sheila E album in. I assumed it was owned by someone named Sheila E. Most likely my wife is correct, but I’m still suspicious since I found the Brooklyn Allstars LP and nothing by Sheila E while shopping, ha.
I was able to hit up another thrift store yesterday where I found two more Willie Banks’ LPs. I love finding these in the wild. I’ll post more about my finds soon!
