When I think of the band Crazy Horse, I naturally think of Neil Young. One could give him credit for bringing the band their popularity after using a few of their members on his albums Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and After the Gold Rush.
I’ve recently become a fan of Crazy Horse’s self-titled album, released in 1971, that doesn’t feature Neil at all.
The song that specifically jumps out to me is Downtown, a funky jam that I’ve been playing in my DJ sets recently. The songwriting credits are split between Danny Whitten and Neil Young and Neil included a performance of the song on his live album, Tonight’s The Night.
Just don’t confuse this Downtown with Neil’s Downtown which was released on his 1995 album, Mirror Ball.
All of this to say, the self titled Crazy Horse is worth picking up and often priced very reasonably.
