I recently stumbled on DJ Greg Belson who specializes in finding old gospel 45s that sound more like Motown hits rather than religious songs. He has a radio show called Divine Discotheque (listen here on Mixcloud) that highlights these finds.
Greg also compiled thirteen songs for a compilation called World Spirituality Classics 2: The Time For Peace is Now: Gospel Music About Us, released last year on David Byrne’s, Luaka Bop records.

I haven’t picked up the LP yet but hope to soon.
Greg’s mixes inspire me to hopefully find some great gospel jams in my thrift store digging.
