Last night I installed a new belt in this Sony Walkman. The cassette deck is now operating properly.
Once you remove the back of the case, the belt is easy to access and install. Here’s a photo of the before:
You can see in the above photo that the old belt has melted off and is stuck in various places. Once removed and cleaned off, I installed a new belt as seen in the photo below…
I also demagnetized and cleaned the head for optimal playback. The capstans and pinch rollers needed a good cleaning as well.
