I haven’t kept a public journal of our quarantined days. I decided to keep most of those thoughts private. I’ve not been posting here very often and I think that has to do with the shock of working from home and not leaving the house for days on end. You think at first it will give you plenty of time to do things like update your blog, get organized, etc., but in reality it just slows you down. I’m okay with not having done everything I thought I would.
One thing I’ve tried to do more in this third (or is it fourth?) week of quarantine, is listen to even more music than I normally do. I’ve also been catching up buying releases I missed out on when first announced.
Jeff Parker’s new album, A Suite for Max Brown, was at the top of my list to buy. My copy arrived last week and I immediately put it on the turntable.
The track that stood out to me is on Side B, called Go Away. I loved it so much I put the needle back at the beginning of the song and listened to it twice before finishing the rest of the LP.
This would be the perfect song to throw into a DJ set. It melds jazz with loopy samples and gives you a sense of motion, peppered with the shouts of “Go Away!” throughout.
It feels motivational in these times of staying home. Give it a listen.
