Nick Lowe – Labour of Lust
A friend recently posted on Instagram their purchase of Nick Lowe’s Labour of Lust LP and I commented on just how underrated this album is. He replied with what most people do, “I know Jesus of Cool but haven’t heard this one yet. Looking forward to it.” A week later he sent me another note saying “This album rips!”.
I think most people are only familiar with the lead track, Cruel To Be Kind, Lowe’s biggest hit in the United States. Below are a few of my other favorite songs if you want a shortlist but please spend time with the entire album and pick up a copy of the used LP if you ever run across it!
Nirvana – Incesticide
Pitchfork recently wrote about Nirvana’s 1992 LP, Incesticide. I remember stumbling on the CD at a Camelot music store in a mall in Shreveport, Louisiana, while traveling to visit my grandmother. I bought it and immediately fell in love with the album. To me, this is Nirvana at their finest…nice and loose, having fun, simple songs and catchy cover tunes. The Spotify link doesn’t have all of the songs available so do what I did, order the 45 RPM remastered LP and play it loud.
