Here are some interesting things I found on the internet this week:
The Zen of Watch Maintenance by Jeremy K
I don’t wear a watch but I felt a kindred spirit in Jeremy when reading his article about deciding to fix an old watch rather than simply buy a new one. Jeremy and I are kindred spirits, however instead of watches, I repair vintage audio gear like turntables, receivers and radios. Part of the fun in each repair is learning the history of the unit, when it was manufactured, how it differs from other units…basically learning it’s story. And even more exciting is retelling that story, especially online with friends. A perfect example is this pink Muntz radio I repaired. Jeremy’s article rings of wabi sabi and I love it.
Patti Smith’s Instagram
I’ve been following Patti’s Instagram for a few weeks enjoying her posts and overall manner on social media. This is how celebrity social media accounts should be: raw photos, personal stories, etc. Show me what you’re working on, explain how you made something, recall an earlier trip to city you’re visiting again and tell me that story. That’s really all I need to fund anyone’s artistic endeavors going forward.
I’m also reading Patti’s book, Just Kids, a Father’s Day gift from my wife, and recommend it to anyone looking for a summer book to read.
How Much is Lebron James to Blame for the Failures of His Supporting Cast by Rodger Sherman
Lebron is a Laker now and LA fans are happy, but now that we see the players they are adding around him, I can’t help but recall this article written in June regarding the Cavaliers and the influence he had on adding the players around him. Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and especially Lance Stephenson all joined the Lakers with Lebron. All of this could be overlooked if they land Kawhi Leonard but until then, could Lebron just end up with another rag tag group of players like he did in Cleveland? This time he’s in the Western Conference and that means he has to take that team and beat Houston or Golden State to just make the Finals. It will be interesting to see how the new season shakes out!
Have a great weekend!
