I purchased this Sansui 2000x receiver in late 2018 from a gentlemen who had inherited it from his elderly neighbor who had passed away. He was not using it and wanted to get in the hands of someone who would. He admitted to me that it was scratchy sounding when I bought it and I assumed it would just need a good cleaning of the pots to fix. I was wrong.
After doing some research I found that the transistors in this machine often go bad so the static I was hearing wasn’t dirt, but bad parts. I decided to rebuild the amp board and the phono board on this unit and now it sounds great.
The amp board on this unit can actually be removed to work on which made things very easy. The phono board was easy to access as well.
It feels good to have this one repaired and up for sale. I’d love to keep it but there just isn’t enough room in the house to do so. It took a long time to finish but that’s because I let other people’s repair jobs get in the way, something I’m not doing in 2020. It feels great to catch up!
