Happy new year. I’m celebrating by going through these 9 boxes of 45s I bought yesterday for $50.
A lady listed these on Facebook market and I drove out to her house to look through and was happy to see they weren’t all country or classical 45s. They were also in fairly good condition. I offered her $50 and she accepted so I brought these all home with me.
Some people really dislike 45 rpm records but I have a certain appreciation for them and enjoy collecting them. I will not keep all 1,000 of these, but I’ve already found plenty that I’ll keep while selling the others.
The lady I bought them from was big in R&B and soul so I’ve found a lot of Stax singles which I enjoy collecting. I will most likely keep all of those. I’ve yet to find anything super rare and worth a lot of money, but I’ll be able to sell enough of these to get my money back and keep some great singles in the meantime.
I’ve ordered 5 boxes that are made specifically to store 45s in. I’m going to alphabetize each 45 inside those boxes and then see if I can group any together to sell in a lot by artist. This might sound miserable to some people, but I love it. I also love stumbling on a random song I’ve never heard before and playing the 45 and doing the research which often leads to me posting about it here.
One of my main goals in 2020 is to buy a record collection to resell. This was an interesting way to end 2019 and hopefully will lead me to finding that LP collection to buy in 2020.
