I like the challenge of posting something here each weekday. I stumbled into the habit last month and have just kept it going. I didn’t scheme a master plan to create a money making blog nor did I set myself a goal to write and write until I made money. I just wanted a website where I could document things that interest me and get out of the social media rat race in the process.
Most of the things I write about are short posts about music that I’m listening to. I’ve found that it’s a way to learn more about the music through research and writing about it. It’s often led me down an interesting rabbit hole that I would have never discovered had I not began researching the music.
I have a hard time thinking of things to write about so I often just grab a stack of 45s and start going through them to see what sparks interest.
Clarence Carter’s Slip Away was right on top of the stack this morning. I’ve always loved this song and was happy to find a 45 copy not too long ago.
Clarence was born blind in 1934 in my home state of Alabama. He made a career singing songs about cheating. Slip Away was recorded in Muscle Shoals at FAME studio and the arranging duties on the label are created to the legendary Rick Hall.
One thing I always forget…Clarence married Candi Staton in 1970 and they had a son before divorcing in 1973. I’ll have to find a great Candi track soon to post about here.
In the meantime, enjoy this great Clarence song. If you ever find his LP in the record store, pick it up, you won’t be disappointed.
