Most love songs are about the excitement that comes from that first moment of falling in love with someone. Unfortunately, those songs are often followed by songs of heartache when things don’t go right.
What about a song for those of us in long term relationships? A song for the two people who have been together for a long period of time and are still in love?
Enter Wilson Pickett’s I’m Not Tired…
I’m Not Tired was written by Steve Cropper and Wilson Pickett and is the b-side to the massive hit, In The Midnight Hour. I recently discovered the song while listening to a pile of 45s I bought not too long at my local thrift store.
I’ve been lovin’ you, baby, for a long, long, long time
And I’m not tired, honey, you know I’m not tired
Each verse ends with the two lines above and it occurred to me that this would make a great song for a wedding dance celebrating parents or grandparents who are still together after many years.
It would also be a wonderful song to include on a playlist or mixtape for those of us still making those for our significant others.
