The local record store where I DJ had a sidewalk sale a few weeks ago. I had a gig there that night and after my set was over, I thumbed through the dollar bin from the sale earlier that day.
The above album cover caught my eye and I recognized the artwork from the same person, Roger Dean, who designed the infamous Yes album covers we are accustomed to. I opened the gatefold cover, read a little about the English band (that looked more Afrobeat to me than English), and decided I couldn’t pass it up for one dollar.
This weekend I made time to really sit down and listen to the Woyaya album by Osibisa. It’s a perfect blend of African rhythms wrapped in long prog-rock jams that immediately grabbed my attention.
The song that drew me was Move On, the most straight forward vocally driven song on the album:
I’m tempted to find a slot in my DJ set for this song…I’m just not sure where yet.
What a wonderful surprise for just $1.
