I recently stumbled on this Reality Bites movie soundtrack CD at an estate sale and picked it up along with a pile of discs I bought. I remember having the soundtrack originally in high school, when the movie was released, but have long since let it go. I thought it might be fun to revisit.
Remember how this soundtrack introduced us to Lisa Loeb? Stay (I Missed You) was played everywhere upon the release and was probably the reason most people bought the soundtrack. It also reminded us all of great tracks like My Sharona by the Knack and was a good stomping ground for left of center acts like Juliana Hatfield Three, Dinosaur Jr., The Posies and more.
To be totally honest, I remember this soundtrack more than the movie itself. I like the tagline on the back of the CD that reads: A Comedy About Love in the 90’s.
Unfortunately, I don’t recall enough funny scenes to remember much about the plot twenty five years later. I do remember enjoying the film but always loving the soundtrack more. Playing it again this many years later reinforced those same fond memories more of the music and less of the movie itself.
Still, each time I think of the soundtrack I immediately start singing…
“Ooh, my little pretty one, my pretty one…”
