General Electric T-104A Radio Restoration

This a General Electric T-104A AM tube radio manufactured in 1960. The radio arrived in great physical condition (no cracks, chips or missing pieces) although it did need a thorough cleaning both inside and out. The radio was not operational, all it did was make a loud humming noise when operating. See below video of … Continue reading General Electric T-104A Radio Restoration

Muntz R-10 Radio Restoration

This 1958 Muntz is a four tube super-heterodyne AM radio. “Muntz” is short for Earl William “Madman” Muntz (pictured below) who made millions selling cheap cars, radios and televisions between 1934 and 1985.   When testing the tubes, I noticed someone had subbed in a 50EH5 output tube instead of using the 50C5 as listed on … Continue reading Muntz R-10 Radio Restoration

Crosley 10-136E Radio Restoration

My wife’s aunt recently asked me to repair an antique radio she was using for decoration in her house. The radio is a Crosley 10-136E, a standard AA5 tube radio which was produced in Cincinnati, OH, in 1950. I plugged her into my variac and slowly brought her back to life but she wouldn’t play … Continue reading Crosley 10-136E Radio Restoration

I found this 45 without any artist info on the label and assumed what the content would be just by the song titles Yo-Yo and Tapping That Thing. I just couldn’t pass up bringing it home to hear if I was right. . Turns out to be recorded by “Boliver Shagnasty”, the alias for Red Skelton singing songs with the type of certain innuendo one would expect. With lyrics like, “Baby let me play with your yo-yo and I’ll let you play with mine”, it’s pretty racy for 1958.
This 25 cent investment reminded me that D. Boon and Mike Watt dug CCR and they inspired them to pick up instruments and form the Minutemen. . But hey if you’d rather jam econo to Have You Ever Seen The Rain instead...well you’re in luck cause that’s the A side. . Also if you wanna go peak 90s search YouTube for the Spin Doctors cover of Have You Ever Seen The Rain 😒
I wrote about these five gospel soul gems and if you’d like to read more about each including links to listen, click the link in my bio and sign up to receive an email with all of the appropriate info. . I’m writing weekly about songs I’ve recovered in my thrift store shopping adventures and more.
A Black Friday $1 purchase at a random Goodwill in Ohio. 🕺🏼
25 cents well spent.
RIP King good buddy. I hope doggie heaven is full of small dogs for you to chase after. I’m sure we’ll still hear your incredibly loud bark way down here.
